Les Godfrey began building bass guitars in 1995, wanting to develop instruments of less weight that still maintain their harmonic tone and clarity. He is always striving for great balance and ease of playability.
His fascination with the double bass led him to the design for his Dragonetti series which shared it motifs and aesthetics with the bass fiddle while still retaining the functionality of a classical electric bass.
Each Dragonetti is entirely hand carved with an arched-topped and or back, strong violin- influenced body shape, and elegant violin scrolls on the head and narrow, elongated arms.
The FreyByrd guitar was born out of his love of Japanese design and desire to create an instrument with weight and feel of the Telecaster. Above all playability drives his design and building.
